Mary Lee Eggart
Let Peace Begin with Me

2022

About the Item

For thousands of years, in many different cultures, white doves have been a symbol of peace. The peace lily acquired its name because of its resemblance to the white flag of truce. White poppies were adopted after WWI as a pledge that war must not happen again. Spreading peace throughout the world requires action such as the lion laying down with the lamb (represented here by the dandelion flower and lambs ear plants).

  • Work for Justice
    Located in New Orleans, LA
The persistent woodpeckers illustrate the diligence and energy necessary to achieve justice for the oppressed. Their hammering motion represents the relentless message of justice. The lotus flower is symbolic of perseverance. A medieval king once affixed yellow Scotch flowers to his helmet to aid his troops in following him into battle. Thereafter, the flower served as a call to action.

  • David Morrison, Wind-Up Bird No. 6, hyperrealist color pencil animal drawing
    By David Morrison
    Located in New York, NY
David Morrison has extended his brand of hyperrealism to the artificial, capturing the intricate lithography that decorates his collection of vintage Kohler wind-up birds. His drawings are often mistaken for a photograph from afar - on approach, they dissolve into a mesmerizing display of mark-making.This new body of work plays with the boundaries between organic and manufactured: the metal imposters are resplendent as they perch, pert and expectant, on wilting greenery. Yet another layer of irony, the toy birds...
