Artist Comments
I enjoy making trips to Palm Springs to collect inspirational material for paintings. I am especially drawn to the bougainvillea blossoms that grow so well in that place. This painting pays homage also to the southwestern architecture that works well with the mountains and the particular plantings that thrive in the urban desert.
About the Artist
Catherine McCargar created her first work of art at five years old, a snowman drawn on blue construction paper. A group of artists invited her to try plein air painting and she fell in love. In her eyes, the time spent composing and recording in the open air is invaluable to breathe life into a painting. Catherine currently lives in California and loves tending her garden and being creative in the kitchen when she;s not painting. Fun fact: she occasionally writes stories for her granddaughter with accompanying ink drawings; she recently wrote a series called Baby Owl Learns to Fly.

By limiting the painting to one color, a bit of distraction is removed, simplifying the scene and bringing a special serenity to the painting. Too much detail in one color could overwhelm, however, so each landscape is painted as a vignette, eliminating the sky and much of the foreground. The result is a very relaxing scene that goes right to the heart of what I wanted to communicate in the landscape.About the Artist
Jill E Poyerd brings peaceful, contemplative moments to life on the canvas. She approaches the canvas with little preparation, instead allowing herself total freedom to create. Both her watercolor and oil painting works depict gorgeous scenes of nature with a style distinctly her own.
