About the Item
Artist Comments
Stacked like rocks on the shore, artist Diane Flick plays with scale, color, texture, and joyful imagery—creating a quirky, awkward, and jovial childlike balancing act. The tongue-in-cheek title is antithetical to the implied feeling of lacking much conscious thought on the part of any of the subjects, or that of the missing assembler.
About the Artist
Artist Diane Flick depicts surrealist scenes that explore human experiences through inanimate objects. She shows sentience to non-sentient beings through the lenses of playfulness, emotional warmth, and dramatic childlike imagination. "Each piece makes me feel really happy," shares Diane. "First in concept, then in execution, then in the flow of sending it out for someone else to enjoy." She relishes animating her subjects in her works, bringing newness and segues into disparate themes from the same intention and philosophy. She pursued her MA at California State University to sharpen her craft. She then worked as a graphic designer, moved to San Francisco, and answered an ad to teach art. Today, she lets her imagination run free at her home studio, built by her husband, with her help. The wonderful sunshine and fresh air offer the perfect environment for her to paint with ease. Diane continues to teach at an after-school art program, sharing her knowledge while keeping her inspired. Relaxing and unwinding mean she gets to spend her spare time with her husband and two sons. Diane enjoys traveling the world with her family and looks forward to making it a habit.

Diane Flick
Diane Flick is a Bay Area artist who paints quirky portraits of robots with a playful color palette and masterful realism. Diane Flick majored in art during college and went on to graduate school, receiving her MA in humanities with a creative study emphasis in 2001. Each of Diane’s robots expresses its own humanlike and idiosyncratic personality. From an early age, she had a fascination with inanimate objects and often imagined what they would be like with human characteristics. Her portfolio explores the human experience through non-human subjects.

- Installation, Oil PaintingBy Michael WedgeLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
Part of artist Michael Wedge's series explores the contrast between urban and rural environments. This surrealist painting depicts the installation of some digital technology in an unlikely place in nature. A woman prepares to climb up the ladder while another approaches with an open laptop and an extension wire at hand. They are busy in the middle of an open field with a fox wandering between them and deers grazing in the distance.About the Artist
Michael Wedge works in a variety of mediums: sculpture, painting, mixed media and more. He oftentimes starts with a mental image and creates digital collages, which become the basis for his paintings. A lot of his work references themes from his personal life, such as the experience of living in a city versus in the countryside. If his art seems mysterious, it;s because he enjoys making complex works. "I am attracted to images or moments that seem to have something subtle or hidden under the surface," he explains. When he;s not making art, he teaches it at an elementary school.Words that describe this painting: surrealism...
