About the Item
This piece, "Sailor in Yellow Gear", is a 40x30 oil painting on canvas by artist Beth Dacey. Featured is a man in yellow sailor gear standing on the side of the boat looking back towards the viewer, his tall shadow cast from the evening light. In the background you can see the horizon separating the deep blue water and muddled blue sky. The painting has a sense of nostalgia, resembling pictures from earlier generations.
About the artist:
Beth Dacey has studied painting at the museum schools at the DeCordova, in Lincoln, MA and at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. She has a BA and MA from Boston College and, for a number of years, taught writing and literature there. She is a member of the SOWA Artists Guild and the Copley Society of Art. Beth now lives in Newbury and is grateful to be able to paint in her new studio there, overlooking the Great Marsh. She still has her studio in the South End.
