This black and white photograph by Ruth Orkin features five men standing with CBS camera equipment on top of a structure. They appear to be filming out into a large crowd at Times Square in New York City, New York. Many American flags, tall buildings and a miniature Statue of Liberty are found in this photograph. This is a silver gelatin print with a blind stamp of Ruth Orkin's name on the print margin. On the back of the photograph, it is signed and titled by Ruth Orkin's estate, along with the copyright. The paper size of this photograph is 20 x 16 inches, and the image size is 15 x 16 1/2 inches. Ruth Orkin (1921 - 1985) was an American photojournalist and filmmaker. Orkin photographed many celebrities and eminent personalities amongst the likes of Einstein, Marlon Brando, Alfred Hitchcock, Doris Day, and Tennessee Williams. She travelled the world on assignments from magazines such as LIFE and Look, and her most celebrated photograph from those travels is “An American Girl in Italy” (1951). In 1952, she married fellow photographer and filmmaker Morris Engel, with whom she worked on two independent feature films. In the following decades, she taught photography in New York at the School of Visual Arts and the International Center of Photography. Orkin’s work has received many awards and been published in a number of books.
