James Bleecker
Ferns No. 2 (Sepia-Tone Botanical Still-Life Photograph on Watercolor Paper)

About the Item

Sepia-tone still life photograph of a fern forest pigment print on watercolor paper, signed and editioned The photograph is unframed and made to order (print lead time is typically 2 weeks) and can ship, rolled in a tube, directly to your home or framer 16.1 x 32 inch image on 22.1 x 38 inch watercolor paper Limited Edition of 20 Photography is generally thought of as the medium that most directly engages with the real, but James Bleecker uses his lens to transform his subjects — whether ferns, landscapes or metropolitan structures — into impossibly pristine archetypes of themselves. Such is the case with "Ferns No. 2." The flora dances with soft light, which is exaggerated by the sepia tone of Bleecker's prints. Patterned like a textile yet "rigorously composed" (to borrow the words of Edgar Munhall, Curator Emeritus of The Frick Collection), this pigment print on watercolor paper strikes a balance between the subtlety inherent to a nature scene and the grandiosity of a large photographic print. About the artist: James Bleecker photographs the landscapes and architecture of the Hudson River Valley. He has received commissions from the Albany Institute of History and Art, Historic Hudson Valley, the Rockefeller family foundations, The Frick Collection, the American Museum of Natural History, and The Morgan Library. Note: The install view of the framed print is an example. Prints are made to order through the terminus of each edition and do not come framed.

For the image “Cloud” the artist Roberta Fineberg’s attention and equilibrium remained anchored on an anthropomorphic cloud during an unusual springtime (the pandemic 2020) in New York. Sheltering in place, with the soul of the City laid bare, birds sang louder than usual outside city dwellers’ windows. Sunlight illuminated the empty streets, formerly bustling. Nature reigned. A contemporary color photograph, Cloud, 2020 by Roberta Fineberg is 18" x 24" (sheet size) an archival pigment print on baryta paper in an edition of 5. Photograph is signed by the artist. Provenance: RF Archive *** Artist Bio: As a photographer and visual artist, Roberta Fineberg (RF) focuses on the themes of serendipity, inventiveness, and development of ideas for her photography, video, installations, works on paper, and painting. Drawn to experimentation, she explores diverse mediums and subjects such as the ephemeral (butterfly series), stolen moments (documentary work), play, timelessness, the enduring, and significance of matter. In July 2022, Roberta Fineberg’s Double Helix was included in a Sotheby’s auction in New York City and exhibited in the preview show Contemporary Discoveries.
