Etching and aquatint on Arches wove paper, executed in 1922, by Jacques Villon after Henri Matisse. One of the twenty proofs in black before the edition of 200 in colour published by Bernheim-Jeune, Paris. Signed in black ink by Henri Matisse and numbered 16 of an edition of 20 copies at lower right. Dimensions: plate: 48.4 x 60.2 cm (19 x 23 3⁄4 inches) sheet: 63 x 90 cm (24 3⁄4 x 35 3⁄8 inches). Provenance: The artist, Jacques Villon (pseud. Gaston Duchamp); Marcel Duchamp, Paris (brother of the artist); Alexina ‘Teeny’ Duchamp (formaly Alexina Matisse), Paris; the daughter of the former, Jacqueline Matisse Monnier; Sale: Christie’s Paris, 13 April 2022, Collection Jacqueline Matisse Monnier, Lot 51.
