About the Item
This beautiful original lithograph depicting a Greek landscape by Charles Lapicque was printed in Paris at the Atelier Mourlot in 1964. He employed fragmented pictorial space, patches of color, and cursory outlines, Lapicque’s style most closely resembled that of Raoul Dufy. He finally abandoned his assistant position at the Faculté des Sciences in 1943 to devote himself entirely to his career as an artist.

About the Artist:
(1898-1988) French
Lapicque was a French painter whose work played a significant influential role in the development of post-modern art. Lapicque trained as an engineer at L’École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures and later fully dedicated himself to art in 1943. In the following years he created many vibrant painting, prints, and sculptures. His paintings use a mix of vibrant colors and palettes as well as multiple perspectives to reflect the scenes of his travels through Europe, a prime source of influence for him. Lapicque’s style of painting, which included portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and mythological scenes, paved the way for both pop art and narrative figuration.
