Hospitality - Sculpture is a fine sculpture realized by the Italian artist Orfeo Tamburi (Jesi, 1910- Paris, 1994) during the 20th century.
Edition of 99 exemplars.
Bonded bronze sculpture with a golden patina. Mounted on a Guatemala green marble base. Guatemala green marble, as its name suggests, is a marble coming from India, also known ad India Green; it is characterized by an intense green color with white veins with an irregular and uneven shape.
Dimensions: cm 10 x 10 x 2 (base); cm 29 (height of sculpture). Excellent conditions.
This artwork - born on a project realized by the artist in the 1930's and manufactured posthumous - represents a sensual nude woman who symbolizes the hospitality. Delightful creation by the great Italian painter Orfeo Tamburi.
He firstly embraced the principles of the Roman School, from which he matured an evocative language with warm chromatic intonations that found favorite themes in portraits and urban views. After a trip to Paris where he discovered the painting of Cèzanne, the artist began a long friendship with Giuseppe Ungaretti, the director Marcello Pagliaro and Curzio Malaparte. In the 1940s he began to collaborate with several Roman theaters and was commissioned to decorate the atrium of the Theater at EUR with the History of the Theater from the Origins to the Melodrama, of which only 6 preparatory cartoons were made. He also had a brief and isolated experience as a film actor interpreting, for the direction of Roberto Rossellini, the episode "Envy" of the film "The Seven Deadly Sins".

Orfeo Tamburi
Orfeo Tamburi was an Italian painter and scenic designer. After moving to Rome, he trained in the Roman School, and from an early age took part in the artistic life of the city, collaborating with articles and drawings in L'Italia Letteraria, Il Selvaggio and other magazines. His artworks were exhibited in Italy - at the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadrennial - but also abroad. Tamburi's favorite subjects were mainly landscapes, urban views and Roman, Venetian and Parisian portraits. The artist was also active as a draftsman, illustrating old and modern works of poets and writers with etchings, lithographs and drawings. He created fifty drawings for Little Rome, with a poem by Ungaretti (Urbinati, 1944), Cineraccio by Leonardo Sinisgalli (Cento Amici del Book, 1966) and many others. In 1979, the Editions Denoël of Paris and Il Cigno Stamperia d'Arte in Rome published a precious three-volume work entitled Paris 20 + 1 with texts by Nino Frank, Georges Pillement and Paul Guth. For this edition, Tamburi created 105 drawings in black and 21 etchings in etching and aquatint in many colors. In 1941, the well-known futurist painter Gino Severini dedicated a monograph to the artist published by the publishing house Documento in the first volume of the series Artisti d'’oggi. In 1947, he moved to Paris, which from that moment became his city. Among the numerous awards obtained for his artistic activity, the First Class Gold Medal for the merit of Culture and Art awarded by the President of the Republic is significant.
