After Carl Milles (1875-1955) sculptor, bronze sculpture of his hand of god. This was one of three major commissions he received in the 1950s and completed before his death in 1955. It was created to honor Swedish Entrepreneur C.E. Johansson, the original sculpture stands in Eskilstuna, Sweden. Another recast stands in Detroit, Michigan, and in other locations throughout the world. Carl Milles worked on The Hand of God from 1949-1953. In the 1930s, he taught at Cranbrook Educational Community, where Saarinen, Eames and Bertoia attended. He America he is best known for his fountains, including the Meeting of the Waters in St. Louis.
Patinated bronze, no damage or repairs. Mounted on custom wood base. Sculpture only is 19" H x 9" W x 5.5" D. Bronze Nude male, mid-century art.
This cast bronze is outside of any edition, and I believe it was done for the International Award for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Research for the Swedish Foundation for Small Business Research and the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth ( Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research), established the award in 1996, and is awarded once a year.
