1990s VOYAGE London Burgundy/Pink Embroidered Silk Blend Velvet Maxi Slip Dress

About the Item

Known as Kate Moss's favorite label during the 1990s, Voyage London was founded by Louise and Tiziano Mazilli. They opened a shop on Fulham Road, London, in 1991 and quickly gained notoriety for their quite high prices and a very strict door policy (Madonna and Naomi Campbell were both reportedly turned away.) Those who made it in were – amongst others – Kate Moss, Amber Valletta and Linda Evangelista, who once declared, "I can't survive without your clothes". Tiny cardigans costed around £500 plus, figure-hugging long dresses at about £1500 and stylish coats up to £3500. However, all this was immaterial when offset against the reality of something that was completely unique, beautifully handmade and wildly trend-setting. Voyage also had the competitive edge of using old fabrics to create recycled clothing with a vintage feel. The shop closed in 2002. Here we have a fabulous 1990s 'VOYAGE' 'Invest in the Original' sleek boho velvet maxi slip dress. The figure skimming halter dress is made from a striking jewel toned burgundy coloured liquid flat ply velvet that is very light. The velvet gives it depth and the colour changes a bit depending on the light you are in from a deep burgundy to a lighter more ruby feeling tone in brighter lights. The bias cut low back dress is suspended from the shoulder with two tiny jewel detailed dusty pink silk straps. The neckline is finished with the same dusty pink silk of the straps and features a lovely floral embroidery at the center. The skirt is constructed with an inset panel at the lower right side so that it flares out softly as it reaches the hem. To finish the dress there is a 28 cm – 11" slit on the back right side – bordered in the same dusty pink silk and decorated with a slightly modified version of the neckline embroidery – so that when you walk or sit you get a flash of leg. It also allows the skirt to have a bit more movement when you walk. Unlined and slips on to wear with no closures. Tagged a vintage size M. The cardigan that you see in picture 2 is not included but available at my Oh! Jackie storefront too. Excellent vintage condition. Perhaps the most minor of marks to the velvet here and there as it is to be expected with this fabric. The fabric does have some stretch and the measurements provided are the comfortable range. Bust: 84 cm – 33.07" (measured across under the arms) Waist: 80 cm – 31.5" Hips: 92 cm – 36.22" Length: 140 cm – 55.12" (measured from shoulder to hem) Measurements are taken flat across from side seam to side seam and then DOUBLED for bust, waist and hips. Approximate Modern Size: S–M Reference Photos: Kate Moss dressed in Voyage London with Meg Mathews and Fran Cutler, 1990s / Kate Moss at a Vogue Magazine party held at the Lisson Gallery on May 20, 1998 in London.

Gianni Versace was an influential Italian fashion designer who founded the Versace brand. In the fall of 1997, he presented his couture collection in Paris, which was widely acclaimed for its opulent fabrics, bold prints, and intricate detailing. The collection featured several notable pieces, such as a black evening gown with a plunging neckline and a gold-encrusted jacket. However, just a few days later, on July 15th, 1997, Gianni was tragically murdered outside his Miami Beach home. Despite his untimely death, his contributions to the world of fashion continue to be celebrated, and his legacy remains an inspiration too many. This collection is iconic as it’s the final collection before his passing. The collection very much showed a new direction for the house. Which was heading away from the bombshell curves and souped-up sex appeal that the house previously focussed on. But took more Inspirations to the new wave John Galliano and Mcqueen were leading.
