Vintage 1920's Gallenga Couture Metallic Stenciled Red Velvet Angel-Sleeve Gown
About the Item
Breathtaking Maria Monaci Gallenga Couture trained gown dating back to the mid-1920's. The textile art of Gallenga is often compared to that of Mariano Fortuny because they both produced hand-stenciled designs that drew inspiration from the distant past. Gallenga became the mentor of the Italian Futurists and in 1925 exhibited in the Italian Pavilion, winning the Grand Prix for stenciled textiles. I adore the metallic stenciled medieval novelty pattern throughout. The care to place this garment together must have taken weeks. The luxurious heavily-pleated collar and waistband create a beautiful regal effect. My favorite detail is the dramatic winged angel-sleeves which Gallenga was known for. Throughout her career, she remained true to her original formula for stenciling on silk-velvet. She used as many as nine tones of gold and silver pigment to achieve the desired ombré shading. The metallic pigment does not tarnish or flake off, thanks to a special formula devised by Gallenga's husband, a Professor at the University of Rome. Examples of her work are extremely rare and found in world-renowned museum archives.

- Vintage 1970s Sant' Angelo Burgundy Draped Chiffon Bodysuit & Fringed Maxi SkirtBy Giorgio di Sant' AngeloLocated in Beverly Hills, CAIncredibly stunning and highly desirable Giorgio Sant' Angelo designer bodysuit ensemble dating back to the late 1970's. He first hit the fashion scene when Diana Vreeland asked him to design clothing for a desert location shoot that starred Verushka in 1968. This shoot is legendary and his clothing was instantly sought out by all the most fashionable women on the planet. Sant' Angelo was the winner of two Coty Awards and two Council of Fashion Designers of America honors. He has had an entire museum exhibit dedicated to his work and will go down in history as one of the great American designers. This seductive two-piece set is a perfect example of his genius. I love the low-cut plunging draped bodysuit as a wardrobe staple. Would also look fantastic with trousers or jeans! The interior is a stretch jersey in a matching burgundy hue so when you put it on, the bodysuit molds to your bod in the most comfortable way. The sleeves are cut long and the draped backless bodice flows into the sash which wraps around the waist. Such a smart design! The matching high-waist embroidered fringe maxi skirt finishes the look off effortlessly. Sant' Angelo once said, "I am not a fashion designer but an artist who works in fashion engineer of form." We added many pictures so you can appreciate this masterful achievement.
