Pink & Green Antique Chinese Peking Enamel Cups and Dishes w. Floral Decoration

About the Item

19th/20th c., Chinese enamelware, includes (2) cups and (2) small scalloped edge dishes, each with enameled floral design on a copper ground, unmarked. This type of enamelling is known by several names, including Beijing, Canton and Peking enamel and was very popular during the 17th century. A metal shape was covered with enamel, then fired. An artist painted a scene or pattern with colored enamels, and the piece was fired again. The result resembles porcelain. These 4 later pieces date from the late 19th/early 20th century and copy the 17th century style. The cups are beautifully decorated with delicate flowers on both the exterior and interior. The scalloped dishes are decorated with larger scale flowers on the inside with lovely green undersides. This type of enamel is rarely made today. Dimensions: 1.75"H x 3.75"dia (cups) 1.25"H x 4.5"W (dishes) Condition: Good, minor wear observed.
