Japanese Six-Panel Screen Byobu With Chrysanthemums And Autumn Grass and Flower
About the Item
The 19th Century Six-Panel Japanese folding screen "Byōbu" usually used in the most important Japanese house to stop wind and also to separate different space of the same big room depicts a typical garden landscape. It captures one season: the autumn with Chrysanthemums painted in different shapes and colors, from the biggest to the smallest; from red to shades of pink and from white to yellow. In this garden it's also painted the white Nippon Daisy known to blossom late in that season, along with autumn grasses such as Bush Clover "Hagi".
This floral subject is depicted on gold leaf "Kinpaku" in encrusted pigments. The folding screen it's bordered by a silk brocade.
