English Victorian Brass Mounted Jewelry Box / Strong Box, 19th Century

About the Item

A fine and very decorative Victorian era (late 19th century) jewelry box of quarter sawn oak, designed in the historic tradition of fortified strong boxes, clad in studs and metal strap work panels and fitted with a working lock. The interior contains three padded drawers, each lined with moiré silk and marbleized paper. The lock has a trick to it, to open it, the key must be actively turned to the right to engage the lock shaft and held while opening. Good antique condition, light wear, nice polished surface.
