French Capucine Clock, by Hastroffer a Lyon, circa 1820
About the Item
A fine French brass Capucine Officers clock, circa 1820, by well regarded maker Hastroffer a Lyon who specialised in this type of clock.
The clock is of typical form with doors to the sides and rear for access to the movement and pendulum, urn finials to the top corners and flanking a polished steel bell, on toupie feet, the enamel dial with Roman numerals and minute marks, steel moon hands, pull repeat and silk-suspension pendulum.
Double rack strike on the hour and two minutes past the hour, single half-hourly strike on a polished bell.
The eight day two train movement is of particularly fine quality with Maltese Cross winding stops on both barrels.
