Impressive Quarter Chiming Tubular Gong Longcase Clock
About the Item
A very impressive quarter chiming tubular gong clock with a very high quality three train movement. The movement is of 8 day duration and strikes the quarter hours on eight chrome plated tubular gongs hanging from the rear of the case and the main hour on a coiled gong. Also featuring Westminster and Whittington chime selection and a strike/silent mechanism. The movement is of the highest quality and has thick brass plates with watr of air engraving, deadbeat escapement and maintaining power, the pendulum with T bar suspension.
Made in the late 19th to early 20th century the clock is housed in solid mahogany case with box stringing and pierced fretwork sound vents. The gilded and silvered dial has a pierced and engraved fretwork sheet layered on top of a a gilded back plate this surrounds the silvered chapter rings, for from top left, chime silent, chime selection and time with subsidiary seconds with blued steel hands.
The eight tubular gongs are visible through the elliptical door window behind the pendulum and brass bound weights.
This clock is show unserviced it will be fully overhaulled before delivery please be aware this may take up to four weeks to carry out before purchasing.
