About the Item
A French Empire finely cast bronze model of recumbent sphinx on a sienna marble base, circa 1840.
The bronze with the warm golden patina of age is in good condition with minor chips/marks to the edge of the marble.
The sphinx consists of the body of a lion and the head of a human / god, this being symbolic of strength and wisdom.
