Delft Majolica Dish with Fruit in Purple and Yellow the Netherlands 1660-1700

About the Item

Dish with fruit in purple and yellow The Netherlands, 1660-1700. The dish has a spreading, slightly raised flange and is painted in purple and yellow with a fruit decor of grapes and apples or oranges, set in a double circle. The well is unpainted. The border decor is made up of filled arc segments, alternating with striped triangles. Three stilt marks, which are characteristic for majolica, are visible in the centre. Dimensions: diameter 30,6 cm / 12.04 in. Fruit decors in all their variations were a popular decorative motif in the seventeenth century and were painted mainly on tiles, majolica dishes and on faience plates from Delft and other places. Condition: this dish is in very good condition, especially considering its age of over 300 years. There are the usual rim chips.
