Delft, Porceleyne Fles Tile Panel after a Painting by Mesdag
About the Item
A very fine Porceleyne Fles Delft hand painted large tile panel after a painting by H.W. Mesdag. The tile panel is executed in Delft blue color. The panel consists of 20 tiles and is painted by De Porceleyne fles factory in 1920 (yearletters AP). There is the painter’s mark VP for Petrus Vreeswijk, who worked at the Porceleyne Fles from 1885 until 1934.
Established in 1653, De Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles is the only remaining Delft blue pottery factory from the 17th century.
This attractive tile tableau is painted after a 19th century painting by the famous Dutch painter H.W. Mesdag (1831-1915). The subject of fishing boats and fishermen on the Scheveningen beach was his favorite subject which he often painted. Many of his paintings were used for the production of tiles and plaques at the Porceleyne Fles.
Overall size including original frame: 96 x 80 cm (37.8”x 31.5”).
Each tile measures: 15 x 15 cm. (6 square) Total weight is 20.2 KG. (45 Lb)
Both frame as tiles are in good condition. Light traces of use consistent with its age.
