Late 18th Century English Faience Planter
About the Item
Fine quality English late 18th century faience planter or pot, with accompanying small porcelain stand. The hand painted image depicts a young couple handsomely dressed in bright colors, seated beneath a tree in a country setting (see image). A four banded gold trim decoration surrounds the circumference of the top, while a smaller band adorns the bottom border. Two gold and white lion heads protrude on each side to complete the decoration. A script letter "S" and a script lower case "a" are the markings on the underneath. It is in excellent condition with no cracks and no chips.
A beautiful gold band wraps around the circumference of the stand
I also have listed an almost identical planter if someone wanted a pair. They both have the same marking on the underneath so obviously from the same maker. See Item Ref LU973214429611

- 18th Century Qing Dynasty Fish Shaped Cricket HolderLocated in Incline Village, NVUniquely fabulous and highly unusual item for those seeking something different; this 18th century "cricket holder" from the Qing Dynasty is in the shape of a fish and is made of hand wrought metal, with nice detail and an open woven body which provided air to the cricket. A sophisticated clasp locking mechanism on the underneath of the fish kept the pet cricket contained in the caged holder. Obviously this was intact when someone at some point in time tried to remove whatever was inside by making a hole at the base of the tail to get it out (see image). This hand held cricket cage holder is in very nice and all original condition, save for the small hole; not fragile in any way; sturdy in structure with no repairs. For over 1000 years the Chinese have used crickets...Category
