Antique Brightly Polished Pewter Plate, English, C.1800
About the Item
Lovely highly polished pewter plate.
Evidence of a rubbed touchmark on the underside. London maker
The pewter has been polished to its original shine to imitate polished silver. It was known as the Poor Man's Silver.
The great thing about polished pewter is that it will retain its shine unlike silver which tarnishes. It can be cleaned with soap and water.
