Pair of Table Lamps from Antique "Delft" Royal Tichelaar Makkum—Kara & Kusa Kara & Kusa are named after the Japanese word for the arabesques in the pattern on the vase bases of these lamps, which represent a plant growing and spreading in many directions. Karakusa was known as a symbol of prosperity and longevity, and considered to be a lucky charm, which is what we hope these lamps will bring to your home! A one-of-a-kind pair of lamps, Kara & Kusa have been lovingly handcrafted from unique, antique, hand-painted vases in a Delft style by Royal Tichelaar Makkum, the oldest ceramic company in the Netherlands, established circa 1572. They are paired with a custom contemporary lampshades in a sunny yellow linen, handmade in an atelier near Amsterdam. The vases (or pul, jar with lid), which form the base of these lamps, were handmade and hand-painted by one of Royal Tichelaar Makkum’s painters circa 1890, as indicated by the markings on the bottom. Height: 49 cm (19.3 in) with lampshade Width: 32 cm (12.6 in) with lampshade E27 bulb fitting, will work with US E26 bulbs; we can change the plugs depending on the country you will use them in.
