Interior Affairs Sofia Aspe and the Art of Design
About the Item
Edited by Sofia Aspe, Foreword by Cristina Morozzi
A luxurious presentation of the works by prominent Mexican interior designer Sofía Aspe, known for creating unique spaces that balance eclectic character with contemporary eras.
This is the second monograph, and first with Rizzoli, in English dedicated to this prominent Mexican interior designer. Richly illustrated, it captures Aspe’s unique and eclectic style, where modern and contemporary unite in a harmonious mixed equilibrium of approaches and eras, generating spaces filled with timeless character.
The book’s visual narrative provides a comprehensive and intimate view of the designer and her work. Superbly photographed, Aspe’s projects are showcased one after another in a bold and innovative design, alternated with brief booklets providing an intimate perspective about the designer and her sources of inspiration. These booklets are further enriched with quotes from the designer about her work, her creative process, and the backstage thinking that leads to the final design outcome.
This exquisite book offers a glimpse into the process of Aspe’s world of interiors, from the international artists and local artisans she works with, to her country’s radiant colors and picturesque charm and her global reach. Reflective of Aspe’s exceptional creativity, this beautifully packaged book will feature a cloth cover with a printed textile. This collection of private interiors is a must-have for the curious, admirers of contemporary design, and art collectors.

- Magical Rooms Elements of Interior DesignBy Rizzoli International PublicationsLocated in New York, NYKnown for her witty and whimsical interiors with a bohemian flair, Brooklyn-based designer Fawn Galli shows us how to create magical rooms ourselves without breaking the bank. Guided by her philosophy ""A room should awaken the senses,"" Galli's goal is to cast a spell with her interior designs. Galli's interiors are celebrated for expressing the deepest desires of her clients through storytelling layers of textiles, colors, and furnishings. In Magical Rooms, Galli shares her collaborative approach to show us how we can transform our inspirations into good design. Showcasing twelve very different interiors--from a Brooklyn townhouse to a Tribeca loft to a Greenwich Village apartment to an Upper West Side penthouse--Galli illustrates how she has achieved the finished look for each and breaks down her design principles into instructive teachings on scale, structure, balance, and color that readers can apply to their own interiors. Through the lens of her favorite rooms, Galli shares her own inspirations and tried-and-true tips, revealing how she distills her influences into five elements that she uses, in every project: Nature (bring the outside in); Clashing (a no-rules attitude); Surrealism (subverting the rules of scale and composition); Bohemian (worldly, chic, and eccentric); and Sparkle (the influence of disco sprinkled like fairy dust). Full of inspiration, ideas, and real-world design tips, Magical Rooms empowers us to dream and to create our own chic and personally meaningful interiors. About The Author Fawn Galli got her start in interior design working for Robert A.M. Stern where, among her many projects, she designed Mr. Stern's own loft and apartment. She went on to work with Peter Marino before eventually launching her own firm in 2007. Fawn's work has been featured in Elle Décor, Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, Lonny Magazine, Domino, New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal, among other outlets. Molly FitzSimons began her career as a style editor for Martha Stewart Living, and has since created content for dozens of lifestyle and interiors brands. She is co-owner of the home furnishings company Noble Goods...Category

- Illusion in Design: New Trends in Architecture and InteriorsBy Rizzoli International PublicationsLocated in New York, NYAuthor Paul Gunther and Gay Giordano Cutting-edge examples of the use of optical illusion in design—from trompe l’oeil to anamorphosis—to solve various challenges, be they space or budget related, or that act as aesthetic features in architecture and the fields that rub elbows with it: art, design, and furniture. This magical volume presents the startling world of illusion in design as employed by today’s architects, interior designers, furniture designers, and others at work bending the appearance of reality for purposes of aesthetics or practicality or fun. From a faux bookcase that masks a room or Prohibition-style bar, to the mind-boggling Escher-like effects achieved by Casa Ceramica, whose optical illusion of a floor dips into valleys and rises into mounds (but is in reality flat), the book is a revelation and an inspiration. It offers to us the possibility that nearly anything can be done, if it can be imagined—even in our own homes. The authors look at residences across the globe, as well as spaces beyond the home, that utilize a myriad of surprising techniques. Included are projects by conceptual designers such as Studio Malka and Vector Architects, as well as established practitioners such as Ferguson and Shamamian, G. P. Schafer, Peter Pennoyer...Category
