The book is presented in its original dust jacket and hardcover boards, with a new archival slipcase. Known most famously as the first man to break the sound barrier in his Bell X-1 rocket plane, Chuck Yeager began his career with the Army Air Force during WWII. He famously made “ace in a day” after shooting down five enemy planes in a single mission, a coveted title among combat pilots. After his service in the war, Yeager qualified as a test pilot and began the trajectory that would launch him into lasting fame. On October 4, 1947, Yeager and his plane “Glamorous Glennis” broke the sound barrier for the first time, reaching a speed of 700 miles per hour. Yeager’s entire life story can be found in this riveting autobiography. Readers can uncover the personal and public story of a man who settled for nothing less than excellence, written in his own words and supplemented by wonderful insights from his wife and those friends and colleagues who knew him best. Yeager’s driven personality and accomplished career are apparent through his detailed autobiography that covers his early pilot days, harrowing fights in the skies of Nazi Europe, his supersonic flight trials, and ends with his retired life and continued passions. The book is further embellished with numerous black and white photographs, illustrating key moments in his aviation career and personal life. CONDITION: Overall very good condition.
