It has the original engraved brass plaque which reads A J MINTO MERRIDALE HALE CHESHIRE, the top of the trunk has a Royal Armorial crest which in Latin reads LILIA SOLA REGVNT LVNAM VNDAS CASTRA LEONEM, I think this translates to "The lilies reign alone over the moon, the waves, the fortress and the lion" The central shield section which shows the three fleurs de lys and the sideways facing Lion above a castle is the Coat of Arms for Bordeaux France, the rest of it and I'm unsure of This piece has an amazing patination that can only be achieved through honest age and genuine use, it looks every bit of its age and more but in the best possible way The condition is perfect, it has been fully restored so the insides have been relined, the brass work all heavily polished so the gold pops and the brown leather hand dyed and restored, this is a true conversation piece and will make a wonderful coffee table or simply a linen trunk Dimensions Height:- 51cm Width:- 76.5cm Depth:- 61.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
