Gorgeous 70+ Year Old Persian Hamadan Runner
4' 4" x 9' 6"
Striking Mid 20th Century runner hand knotted in the ancient region of Hamadan. Due to Hamadan's lengthy history, it is home to all sorts of weavers hailing from different cities and tribes. Due to the variety of artisans the designs that come out this region range in appearance and complexity. Pieces from this area in the world are beloved by collectors and highly sought after, due to their attractive designs and renown durability.
This piece features a pile that is comprised entirely of high quality Persian wool. It is incredibly plush and soft, and exactly what you would want in a runner. Artisans in this region are known for their masterful craftsmanship, which results in stunning, lasting creations.
This particular Hamadan runner features a blown up (enlarged) mahi design, or fish design in English. The mahi design originated with the nomadic Persian tribe the Kashkoolis of the Qashqais. Since its conception it has become one of the most beloved designs in the world. Enlarging the design gives it a more contemporary look as opposed to its traditionally more elegant interpretations that you'll find in areas like Tabriz. It bold design is enhanced by a simple contrasting color pallet. Featuring rusty pinks, bold crimson, and deep navy blues, this piece absolutely stands out and perfectly compliments wood tones.
Despite being 70 plus years of age, this rug is plush and soft. Its perfectly intact in its original condition. Truly a stunning testament to the durability of quality of these beautiful rugs. This rug will easily last 200 more years and only get better with time.
