Oushak (or Ushak) rugs originate from the small town of Oushak in west-central Anatolia, which is located just south of modern-day Istanbul, Turkey. Oushak has been a center of production for Turkish rugs since the beginning of the Ottoman Empire. Antique Oushak rugs tend to be loosely woven on a wool foundation with a wool pile, often feature a subdued palette in soft apricot and golden saffron tones, and are known for the monumental scale of their designs. Oushak rugs are highly collectable and compliment a variety of elegant room settings.
