Mediterranean Spanish Revival Pair Ceruse Chairs Rush Seats Blue Loose Cushions
About the Item
Awesome and unusual pair of Mediterranean or Spanish Revival style chairs with rush seats and loose ice blue velvet cushions attributed to American of Martinsville. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The foam is aging on the cushions and the velvet is very distressed and eventually will need to be reupholstered. We have priced accordingly. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1960’s.
Note: We have a Mediterranean sofa listed here that will pair beautifully with these chairs if it is still available.
Mediterranean, Spanish Revival, blue velvet, AND rush weaved seats?? WOW!!! It doesn’t get much better than that!! These chairs are awesome!! They are attributed to American of Martinsville because they have no label, but they came from the same home with a matching sofa that IS tagged. They have a handsome antiqued or rather cerused speckled finish on the wood and gorgeous scrolled designs on the arms. Their frames are square with deep seats, and they are adorned with four globe shaped knobs on each corner, carved designs down the front legs, and an H shaped stretcher across the base. It wears an original light ice blue velvet upholstered back, a loose blue velvet seat and back cushion, and fabulous gold tassel ties to hold them in place. As occurs with time, the foam is quite aged and the velvet has gotten pretty distressed so eventually they may need recovered BUT you could leave the velvet on the upholstered back, use the gorgeous rush seat, and just throw a pillow of your choice in the back. We’ve photographed some examples for you. (note: throw pillows not included but could be if you are interested!) FABULOUS! They will be wonderful in your living room across from your sofa, on each end of the sofa, or in a sitting room with an accent table in between them. These are certainly some of the most beautiful and unusual chairs we’ve seen in a long time, and we can just picture them flanking your fireplace! Their high style and distinct lines are just what today’s decors are all about. They honestly can go just about anywhere you need some marvelous extra seating.
American of Martinsville was established in 1906 in Martinsville, Virginia by tobacco manufacturers, Ancil Witten and Charles Keesee. Early on they produced only bedroom furniture. In the 1920s they expanded their production to include dining room furniture and by the end of the 1950s were vast in their offerings in purpose and style. With the expansion of travel and roadside motels, they began offering a mass-produced line for the many motels popping up across the country and continued this through the end of the 20th century. In 2000 they were acquired by La-Z-Boy Incorporated and today specialize in furniture for the hotel and healthcare industries.
We know you must love this pair of Mediterranean or Spanish Revival style chairs as much as we do…. You simply MUST make them yours!!
