Regency Rosewood Freestanding Open Bookcase Pedestal
About the Item
A Superb Quality And Rare Late Regency Period Rosewood Freestanding Open Bookcase, Or Central Standing Pedestal, Having Superbly Figured Top With Heavily Carved Moulded Edge, Raised On Four Canted Corner Supports With Crisp Carved Foliate Decoration To Three Well Figured Tiers, Raised On Original Plinth Base.
This fine quality piece of later regency period furniture is quite beuatiful indeed. It is constructed using the highest grade of figured rosewood veneers which would have been available at the time of construction and in combination with the excellent carved decoration this combines to create an incredibly attractive, decorative piece of furniture indeed which would have originated in one of the top workshops of the time.
Finished in the same way on all four sides this piece was probably designed as a central standing open bookcase originally, but in such a way that it could also be used as a pedestal, or plinth, for a large marble or bronze sculpture or similar. Certainly it could now be used in a huge variety of spots around the home or office as it looks just as nice utilised as a lamp, or occasional table in the corner of the room.
Overall the condition is very good with just a few minor, historic old marks and scratches as one would expect to find on an item of this age. These have now blended in with the overall patina of the piece of course and therefore there is no significant defects of any kind worthy of special mention.
As with all items which we offer for sale this piece has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained specialist antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale to ensure it is in its best possible condition before being offered for sale.
