Mid Georgian Solid Walnut Tripod or Wine Table One Piece Tilt Top, circa 1760

About the Item

This is an elegant and beautifully proportioned solid hardwood, possibly walnut, tripod table or wine table with a tilting top and dates to the Mid Georgian Chippendale period, circa 1760. The circular top is made from one-piece of solid hardwood, possibly walnut which has a finely figured grain and lovely mellow color. The top tilts and is fixed to a square block which locks into place with a brass snap lock catch. The solid slightly tapering stem is particularly good with a well carved fluted spiral baluster at its base. The three legs are dovetailed into the stem and have a good spread with carved feet. This table has lovely proportions and has developed a good color and patination from well over 250 years of use. Approximate dimensions Measures: Top diameter 18.88 inches. Leg spread width 20 inches. Height 27.5 inch This is a very decorative and versatile table. Smaller tripod tables like these are very useful and makes ideal side tables, for a lamp or display piece, as a wine or end of sofa occasional table.

  • George 111 Mahogany Chippendale Dining Chair Reupholstered, Circa 1760
    By Thomas Chippendale
    Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a superb hardwood walnut or mahogany, Chippendale back, side or dining chair which we date to the mid 18th century, George 111rd period, circa 1760. The chair has a very well carved "Chippendale" back splat consisting of vertical interconnected ribbons with good detail. The top rail has a serpentine crest with central crisply carved detail with an acorn motif and well formed & carved ears with rosettes. The pegged and jointed legs are square with an inside chamfer back and front and the front legs are flute molded to match the side rails, with dovetailed "H" cross-stretchers. It has a drop-in seat which has been newly upholstered and webbed but could easily be upholstered in a fabric of choice. The proportion of this chair is excellent with very good width and a good rake to the backs and rear legs. The hardwood has developed a beautiful mellow colour and patina with age and polishing over the years. Overall a fine quality, English Georgian dining chair.

  • Fine Georgian Extending Dining Table D Ends with Two Leaves, English, circa 1785
    Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a high quality English extending dining table made from hardwood, in the period of George III, during the late 18th century, circa 1785. This table will seat 10 people on account of its large width of over 54 inches plus the semi circular ends. It has two D-ends ( semi circular) each having four legs, the two outer ones being fixed and fluted and the two inside ones being gated, swinging out to support the leaves when required. There are two additional leaves. The tops and legs are solid hardwood, with all the legs being square tapered, ending in carved spade feet, with what look to be the original brass castors. The edges to the table top are horizontally reeded and the curved side under-frames are veneered. This is a very versatile dining table. The D-ends can be used separately as pier tables or joined together to form a circular table. The table can be easily extended, using either one or both leaves as required. When fully extended with the two leaves inserted the piece forms a large elegant dining table, capable of seating ten people, the sections clipping together with six brass clips. The color and patina of this table is superb, having a rich patina, only possible with over 200 years of repeated polishing. For similar 18th C. Extending dining tables see the book; British Antique Furniture by John Andrews, published by the Antique Collectors' Club. Overall this is a fine English 18thC Georgian dining table.
