Dreams in Waiting

About the Item

Tapestry made of white silk velvet dyed with ultramarine, cornflower and gray pigments, painted with colored pastes. Murano glass details, gold leaf and silk thread. "Dreams in Waiting" is a work that represents the need to remember one's dreams. Though hanging from a clear glass rod with white filigree with a gold leaf detail that looks fragile, it steadily supports dreams and shows them to remind us of them. The uniqueness and authenticity of this work is confirmed by the artist's entirely personal and original technique, which no one else has applied with the same methods and on the same media. The processing technique first consists of hand-dyeing natural silk velvet with pigments dissolved in water. This process is unique and unrepeatable, as several uncontrollable external factors influence it, and the artist deliberately never transcribes "recipes" for color rendering. Once the velvet was dyed, it was ironed and treated with ancient craft techniques, revisited by the artist, which made it smooth and shiny. On this support, which forms the basis of the work, Anna Paola Cibin later intervened with colored paste prints and gold leaf. A distinctive feature of all the artist's works is the special use of colors, which create distinctive shades, similar to the so-called abrash - or color variations - of antique carpets. In addition, the use of the textile printing technique places the artist within the well-known history of Venetian textile printing. Sometimes the use of ancient and contemporary glass fragments and small amounts of gold and silver also links his work to the territory and history of the lagoon city.

Oil on canvas; Framed. Ron painted about 200 oils of Western scenes a year. "I picked Western subjects because they let the artist use landscape, people, storytelling…I think the peak in art was the French Impressionist," he observes. "It is a looseness in style and the paintings that border abstract. I hope my style goes that way. My feeling is that if an artist lives to be 200, he becomes an abstract painter, boiling down all he wants to interpret into his abstract essence. Basically, all painting is abstract. A good painting is a good abstraction." Period: Last half of the 20th century.
