Michele Loberto, Still life with classical head

About the Item

Michele Loberto 1922 - ? Still life of flowers with classical head, 1984 oil on canvas, cm. 95x95 Signature and date at lower left: Michele Loberto 1984 The painting, in excellent condition from an important private collection in Trieste, depicts a composition inside the artist's studio. In the background is a canvas where the bodies of two female figures can be seen, barely hinted at. In front of this a simple vase holds a lush arrangement of brightly colored cut flowers with irises and poppies. A classical head and white drape complete the composition. The work, of great pleasantness and scenic impact, is also characterized by the choice of color palette, with the contrast between the vivid and bright tones of the flowers in the foreground dominating the center of the scene and the background, intentionally rendered by the artist in the duller shades of blues and grays.

Roman School of Italian painting Madonna and Child early XVIII century Created by an artist of the Roman School of Italian painting in the early XVIII century, this exceptionally preserved artwork was part of a private collection, thus it has never been on the market before. The oil-on-canvas painting is enhanced with a carved and gilded wood frame. The Virgin's dress' vivid colors - red and white, with yellow and blue sleeves - hold a major role in the scene, as well as the position of both sacred characters - the Virgin's left hand is softly placed on her cheek, while the right arm is holding the Child against her chest. The Child is portrayed while giving blessing and holding in his left hand a small wooden cross...
