The Allsopp Brothers of 60 McWhorter Street, were acknowledged leaders as manufacturers of diamond rings and fine gold rings with precious stone settings. In fact they have made the language of rings almost as familiar and as popular as the language of flowers to the aesthetic mind. They made gift rings for every month in the year, and mounted rings to convey sentiment in accordance with the meaning of the precious stone used. All their rings have their trademark, a capital A with a five-pointed star stamped on the inner surface, and their goods were sold by high class retail jewelry emporiums all over the union. The two brothers, Henry and George A. Allsopp, were both practical jewelers, were born in England and came to Newark in 1881. They commenced their Jewelry business in 1887 under the firm name of H. Allsopp & Co. but in 1892 when they removed to their McWhorter Street location, they adopted the style of Allsopp Brothers. They started with three employees and in 1901 gave steady work to thirty-five and kept four traveling salesmen continually on the road. They were members of the N. Y. Jewelers' Board of Trade and the Jewelers' League of the United States. Bloodstone Is a mineral aggregate heliotrope also known as bloodstone, is a cryptocrystalline mixture of quartz that occurs mostly as jasper (opaque) or sometimes as chalcedony (translucent). The "classic" bloodstone is opaque green jasper with red inclusions of hematite. The red inclusions may resemble spots of blood, hence the name bloodstone. Bloodstone is often used to increase courage, motivation, and creative energy. It's also beneficial for endurance and physical strength. In addition, bloodstone can remove blocks that are keeping us stuck, which can help to revitalize our energy and create a clear path forward. Bloodstone healing is all about boosting strength, courage, and resilience. It helps by rooting you in and making you feel completely safe and unswayable in your own skin. Art Nouveau Jewelry Or so called the new art jewelry was created in Europe between about 1895 and 1915, coming on the heels of the “overwrought” designs of the Victorian era (which ended with Queen Victoria's death in 1901) and creating a striking contrast to the mainstream Edwardian designs of that time. While jewelry with a similar aesthetic was being made in other countries during the same time period--for example, Jugendstil in Germany and Austria--true Art Nouveau jewelry is decidedly extended in France. It was a short-lived period in jewelry design, lasting only about 15 years, because of the onset of World War I and because the pieces were so over-the-top that people quickly lost interest in them. Characterized by lavish and organic ornamentation, the Art Nouveau movement blossomed in Vienna at the turn of the 20th Century, with influential Austrians architects Otto Wagner and Adolf Loos making significant architectural contributions that helped shape the city's skyline as we see it today. Literature: Newark, The Metropolis of New Jersey at the Dawn of the 20th Century, 1901. Collateral: It is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of this ring is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. The bloodstone is secured in the settings.
