About the Item
"Bitchcoin started life in a junk shop in Glasgow……I spotted a box of slides (1000s) from a house clearance…….amongst which where images of the owners coin collection…..
I kept them for over a year knowing that I would use them.
Could I somehow work them into the recycled coffee pod series.
The 35mmslides (Transparencies) fit perfectly within the pods…..so all I had to do was illuminate them…….This was the original lightbox I created to get the series underway!
The dog/pod graphic was a theme I had already used and discovered that I had exactly enough coin images to form a colourful contrast set amongst the relatively monotone film stills from A series of unexpected events …..given to me by an editor friend……I am a film buff …..but picked these stills because of their monotone nature.
The title came from an argument I was having with an artist friend about Crypto Currencies……I am not a fan….but each to their own…….
The hand painted figures are placed in the pods to help draw the viewer in, also it means the piece still pops when its not illuminated.
This piece sits under my Arte Povera inspired umbrella….I delight in giving found objects and recycled elements a new life…..its likely the coin images would have ended up in landfill and never be seen again…..
I loved making it. Its a one off….there are no more coin slides……yet!!"
