Casper Brindle
A disciple of the Light and Space movement and linked with California Finish Fetish minimalism, Los Angeles–based contemporary painter and sculptor Casper Brindle is known for his abstract paintings and sculptures which explore the shared sensory relationship between color and light.
Brindle was born in 1968 in Toronto, Canada. His family moved to Los Angeles in the early 1970s, and there he grew up immersed in Southern California’s surf culture. In the late 1980s, Brindle worked for renowned Light and Space artist Eric Orr, who greatly influenced and inspired his artistic development.
Surf culture, as well as an integration of processes and materials that are specific to the environs of Southern California, are among the defining attributes of the Finish Fetish movement, a term that, helpful or not, has been applied to a range of artists that includes Ed Ruscha, Judy Chicago, Billy Al Bengston, Brindle and others. As an avid surfer, Brindle has often used his experiences on the water to study the interplay between color and light. This relationship often serves as the focus of his paintings.
To achieve the rich gradients and overall mood that characterize his atmospheric works, Brindle uses commercial car paint which he airbrushes onto his canvases and finishes with resin to create depth and enveloping luminous forms. It has been said that Brindle’s art evokes an emotive language similar to that of painters Mark Rothko and Jules Olitski.
Brindle’s paintings and abstract sculptures have been shown extensively throughout the United States and internationally. His works are included in private collections and are held in the collections of prestigious institutions such as the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation in Los Angeles and the Morningside University Collection in Sioux City, Iowa.

Provenance Steve Chase Design, Palm Springs, CA Ronnie Landfield was born in the Bronx, NY on January 9, 1947 - the same day as his older brother. As a teenager, he was encouraged to pursue a career as an artist, subsequently creating his first real paintings around the age of 14. He was particularly influenced by a Life magazine article from 1961 on the Abstract Expressionists, most notably: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Hans Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. After stints at the Art Students League, the Kansas City Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of California at Berkeley, Landfield’s professional career as a painter began in New York in 1965. The following year, after completing a major series of hard-edge border paintings, success as a painter began to materialize. The famous architect and collector Philip Johnson and the collector Robert Scull each acquired large paintings works, as did the Sheldon Memorial Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1967, Landfield was invited to participate in the Whitney Annual at the end of the year. His work attracted considerable attention, and he was invited to participate in important group exhibitions at the Bykert, Bianchini, and Park Place Galleries in New York.
