About the Item

Acrylic, charcoal, spray paint, collage, bronze and gold leaf on canvas. Dawn Beckles’ use of paint, print making and collage create bold depictions of the domestic: the exotic flora inspired by her native Barbados paralleled with found images of man-made beauty as well as uninhabited interiors celebrating the quiet moments of everyday life. The family pictures, artworks, furniture, vases, and symbolic references that decorate Dawn’s interiors tell stories about the people who live in them and signify the relationship between object and owner.

    Located in San Diego, CA
This is a one-of-a-kind original acrylic and gold leaf still life painting by San Diego artist, Duke Windsor. Its dimensions are 18"x36"x1.5". It is unframed. A certificate of authenticity will follow delivery. Windsor’s success as a contemporary artist lies in his ability to infuse ordinary subject matter with his own ingenuity. Windsor’s wealth of occupations and personal drive have shaped the foundation of his creative spirit. Through observation of the traditional American Way, Windsor finds his most powerful subject matter. The gold in his contemporary icons elicit consideration for reverence, love, compassion, and courage in our world. Gold leaf is the color of extravagance, wealth, riches, and excess which exerts a hypnotic attraction and evokes a very celestial, reverent feeling towards the serenity of the subject. "The Golden Skies series came about after several years of experimenting with new ways to create my urban/rural cityscape scenes in a fresh way. I was inspired to utilize gold leaf after seeing the biopic film, Klimt. In the movie, Klimt (John Malkovich) is working the “Adele Bloch-Bauer” portrait, and in the scene, he was applying gold leaf on the painting. Later while visiting the Timken Museum in Balboa Park, I viewed the collection of Russian Icons on wood...
