Ron Lukas
Ron Lukas Portrait "Annie Hall" Woody Allen Movie Character

1977

About the Item

SALE ONE WEEK ONLY “Annie Hall” is a brilliant complicated mixed media piece composed of disparate parts and pieces that together make up a successful whole similar to the Woody Allen film of the same title. The movie was created during the late 70s a time when personality confusion, emotional anxiety and psychic analysis were popular issues to suffer under and popular topics of discussion. With Annie Hall, Allen, with comedic intent, moved toward the more serious comedy. It had a realistic plot and characters, and it addressed deeper themes than the silly films of his early career. Ron Lucas very adroitly manages the comedic with the more serious in this painting. He is a visual development artist and art director for animation with a long history with companies including DreamWorks Animation and Sony Pictures Animation. Ron is a practicing artist, illustrator, photographer, art consultant and art teacher, residing in Southern California. A native of Chicago, he is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Chicago, with a degree, BAE and two years Masters study, MAE in the fields of Art Education, Painting, Drawing, Illustration and Psychology. Lukas is the recipient of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, George E. Brown Fine Art Foreign Travel Fellowship, plus 6 years full-time college art scholarships, and numerous other fine art and commercial art awards and achievements. His animations are in the style of Marvel Comics and his paintings are Expressionistic abstract.

SALE ONE WEEK ONLY This captivating painting by an unknown artist takes the famous 17th century painting Esther before Ahasuerus by Artemisia Gentileschi and recontextualizes it for the modern era. In the original Old Testament story as depicted by Gentileschi, Esther, the Jewish wife of the king Ahasuerus went to him without being summoned after the king ordered the execution of all Jewish people in the Persian Empire. She asked him to spare her people, breaking court etiquette and risking almost certain death before fainting before the king. In this work we have the king of his house in his yellow recliner...

  • "Adam and Eve Triptych" Contemporary Surrealism with Hieronymous Bosch Attitude
    By Renata Palubinskas
    Located in Detroit, MI
"Adam & Eve Triptych" is a contemporary painting with surrealist elements such as the eyes in the clouds, the unknown and unknowable creatures painted and the biblical scene alluded to by the title. There is a definite Hieronymus Bosch attitude expressed by the creature in the first panel and the last panel. The sweetest creature is Eve as a very young, but nonetheless, suspicious and perhaps manipulative woman. Renata Palubinskas was born in 1968 in Kaunas, Lithuania, at the time still in the Soviet Union as the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic. She received her diploma in Fine Art and Restoration from St. Zukas Technium of Applied Arts in 1989. After working at the M.K. Ciurlionis State Museum of Art, she emigrated to the United States in the 1990s, basing herself in Detroit. Renata's work rethinks historic iconography while intentionally addressing the modern world through a new perspective. The characters in her paintings are often caught between the struggle of good and evil. That struggle represents the choice of trying to obtain immediate gratification or realization of the self, and the haunting life experiences with latent possibilities for death. Renata uses schematic compositions with purposefully positioned figures and other visual elements. To attract attention to the most significant figures, she often ornate their garments with intricate patterns. They are typically placed in either a serene landscape or an interior setting with a threatening presence around them. Her work has been exhibited in Collected Detroit...

    By Scott Naismith

"My recent work now becomes more involved with cloud cover and its effect on light and colour through both its translucent and opaque properties. Clouds are visible masses of water droplets or frozen ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. They have the ability to refract and reflect, creating an ever changing perception of light which inspires my use of colour. I am constantly referring to the paradox of a cloud’s perceived weight and its fragility and the relationship between the cool and warm colours created by it. I have become increasingly interested in catching the moment when heavy overcast clears to reveal clear blue sky, a cool colour that complements the warmth it brings. While the most obvious manifestation of light refraction at this time would occur in the form of a rainbow, I will be concerned with accentuating the infinite, more subtle effects. I find myself inspired increasingly by the works of Turner, who created ephemeral atmospheric effects using large washes of liquid paint. Other influences include Henry Matisse, Francis Cadell, Glasgow boys: Guthrie Lavery, Henry... and Joan Eardley...
