About the Item
An oil painting of a beach on Gin Lane, by Darius Yektai. Painted en plein air on the bed of his truck, Yektai uses sweeping brushstrokes to approximate the expansiveness and luscious texture of the local beaches. Tire tracks are carved through the sand, alluding to the surfing and fishing culture which thrives in the Hamptons. Painting at the beach on a windy day, means being slapped with sand - so Yektai chose to allow his wet canvas be hit by the sandy wind gusts, grains cling to the paint, creating texture and a natural shimmer (acting similarly to diamond dust - a material made famous by Andy Warhol).
Artist Bio
Darius Yektai was born in Southampton NY, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. He grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American Mother, and his Father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the US after the Second World War, was a prominent Hamptons AbEx painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his-own.
Darius' most recent body of work is bright, colorful, with oil and acrylic paints laid on thick. He's creating sculptural paintings that can't be read from left to right, they need to be examined from surface to base, from section to section, and then overall as an encompassing whole.

Darius Yektai
Darius Yektai was born in Southampton, New York, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. Darius grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American mother and his father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the United States after the Second World War. Manoucher was a prominent Hamptons Abstract Expressionist painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his own.
