Pierre Louis Cazaubon
Antique landscape, riverscape oil painting by Pierre Louis Cazaubon

1910's

About the Item

Antique French riverscape/landscape in a beautiful ornate frame by French artist, Pierre Louis Cazaubon, signed in the lower right corner. This attractive post-impressionist oil on thick card of a boat making its way down the Dordogne river at the Bords de L'Isle, Neuvic. The Perigord is a wonderful area in south West France and the artisst has expertly captured the moment. A lone figure makes their way down the peaceful and unspoilt river. Passing reflections of the overgrown trees lining the bank, only interrupted by a quaint clay roofed boathouse to the left of the painting. The artist has managed to animate the painting by the use of impasto enforced knife and brushstrokes and giving the most appealing depth to the water and the quiet countryside beyond. MORE ABOUT THIS PAINTING: Medium: Oil on thick card Overall size: 20.5ins x 17ins or 51cms x 44cms (approx) Date: 1910's - 1920's Condition: The painting, is in overall good antique condition but you should expect imperfections associated with age, such as some missing paint top middle and minor imperfections throughout. The frame, quite likely the original is in good condition for the age but again, has imperfections throughout and there have been previous renovations. Signed: P. Louis Cazaubon - Pierre Louis Cazaubon was born 28 June 1872 in Bordeaux. He was a painter of genre scenes, local scenes, landscapes, seascapes and murals. He first studied at the art school in Rouen, then in 1919 entered the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He settled in Montmartre early in the 1920s, and in 1936 moved to the Latin Quarter. Although he had received a thorough training, he created his own completely spontaneous technique aiming at approaching his subjects with a fresh look. Beside a few views of Rouen, Lorient, Dinan and Villefranche-sur-Mer, Génin specialised in the popular theme of views of Paris. He worked swiftly, making rapid jottings, and thus could produce many paintings. At auction his pictures were sometimes sold in lots. He painted both in oils and in gouache. Lucien Génin showed work at the Salon d'Automne in 1926 and 1930. His work featured at the Marcel Aymé and the Painters exhibition, Galerie Roussard...
