Painter and master altarpiece craftsman, he was the son of the draftsman and illustrator Joan Vila i Pujol (D'Ivori) and brother of Francesc Vila i Rufas (Cesc), draftsman and painter. He studied at the Massana School in Barcelona, where he later taught the subject of Form and Color and the specialty of Altarpiece and Polychromy from 1953 until his retirement (1989). Initially he dedicated himself mainly to religious painting, in formats such as altarpieces, murals and stained glass windows; Over the years he progressively abandoned the religious theme and began to innovate the technique of the altarpiece. Considered the most outstanding altarpiece maker of the second half of the 20th century in Catalonia, he renewed the technique based on medieval tradition and spread a new style and use. He has works in Llars Mundet in Barcelona, in the Center Borja in Sant Cugat del Vallès, in the parish of Sant Miquel de Vallfogona in Balaguer, in the ONCE delegation in Barcelona and, especially, in the parish of Sant Joan in Vilassar de Mar, where the altarpieces of San Isidro (1948), Nuestra Señora del Carmen (1949), Sagrado Corazón (1950-1953) and Nuestra Señora del Rosario (1953) are his work. There are also his works in the Design Museum from Barcelona. He was in charge of the artistic direction of the restoration of the Modernist House-Museum of Novelda (1977) and was the author of the mosaics of Dulce lignum and that of the lamb with the alpha and omega on the façade of the Passion of the Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Barcelona Family (1986). Since 1951 he held various individual and collective exhibitions in Barcelona, as well as in other cities (New York, Avignon, Paris, Buenos Aires); In 2000, a tribute exhibition was dedicated to him at the Massana School. He received various awards: Chicago (1960) and First National Competition for Religious Home Art (1963).
