Vintage Portrait of 1940's Noir Writer Cornell Woolrich
Pencil portrait of famous 1930's 40's noir/crime writer Cornell George Hopley-Woolrich, circa 1980. Cornell George Hopley-Woolrich is one of America’s best crime and noir writers who sometimes wrote under the pseudonyms William Irish and George Hopley. He’s often compared to other celebrated crime writers of his day, Dashiell Hammett, Erle Stanley Gardner and Raymond Chandler. This portrait, rendered by the artist from an iconic photo of Woolrich, captures his intensity and intelligence. It's difficult to not feel as if his exploration and constantly being immersed in the under-belly of life is etched on his face.
