He exhibited for the first time at the Romanian Academy of Fine Arts in 1963 and won international competitions . He emigrated to Israel in 1974, and became even more active, exhibiting in Europe and North America. His works, figurative and cubist, very influenced by Matisse , Sonia Delaunay and Klee , mainly address three themes: women, dance and the city, especially Paris. Guttman became a member of the Romanian Association of Painters at the age of twenty-eight. Many of his paintings and lithographs were purchased and displayed at the official exhibitions by the Romanian Government. During this time, Guttman was working as an illustrator, doing artwork for book jackets and movie posters. His first one-man show was exhibited at Magheru Gallery in Bucharest in 1963. He traveled to Moscow and Leningrad in 1964 for further studies. In 1966, he won third prize at the International Movie Posters Competition in Moscow for his poster of the German film “Goya.” During the next several years, Guttman participated in group exhibitions throughout Europe. He then traveled to Budapest and Prague for a year of studies in 1968, following that with a trip to Poland in 1969 for additional studies. With the loosening of the “iron curtain” in Europe, Guttman was able to immigrate to Israel in 1974. Today Harry Guttman resides in a suburb of Tel Aviv and still paints every day. Guttman graduated with distinction from the Romanian Academy of Fine Art in 1960.

  • Vibrant Floral Still Life Painting in the Modernist Style
    By Donald Roy Purdy
    Located in Surfside, FL
DIMENSIONS: (With Frame) H:36" L:29 7/8" (Without Frame) H:29.5" L:23 3/8" Donald Roy Purdy is an American painter whose work evolved through a range of styles and subjects over the course of his long career. Born in 1924, the self-taught artist seldom used models. Rather, Purdy worked largely from the memory and impressions certain subjects and objects left upon his mind. The artist only occasionally paints on canvas, preferring masonite which he considers to be a stronger and longer-lasting material. Though he admits to using gesso, Purdy is known for his special preparations of painting surfaces through a method he keeps secret. Purdy first began painting in an abstract style. He later combined the abstract techniques with representational subject matter, and would continue experimenting with new styles. In the 1970s and early 1980s, Purdy became influenced by the palette of the Barbizon painters and developed a unique approach, melding abstraction with the rigid Realist techniques to produce his signature Impressionist style. Before pursuing a career as an artist, Purdy earned a B.A. from the University of Connecticut and an M.A. in Psychology from Boston University. Two Purdy paintings were included in the US State Department's "Art in America" show which recently toured Europe and several "First Awards" have been given to Purdy in competition with major artists. Among these is the Gold Metal of Honor from the National Academy in New York City. Purdy's pieces are exhibited by the noted Van Diemen-Lilienfeld Gallery, which shows his work alongside the works of Vlaminch, Derain, Pissaro, Monet, Chagall and Picasso. His one man exhibitions have been seen in New York at the Ruth...

  • Pink Rays
    By Lee Herring
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Lee Herring focuses his contemporary paintings on vibrant, textured, and abstract landscapes that convey fleeting moments. Herring's energetic artworks are inspired by everyday moments and memories as he captures these ephemeral spaces within the context of a spontaneous, dream-like landscape. This 14.5-inch square original mixed media painting on wooden board is signed by the artist on the front and back. This artwork is framed in a white wood frame and is wired and ready to hang. Size and price include the frame. Convenient local Los Angeles shipping. Affordable Continental U.S. and International shipping also available. A Certificate of Authenticity issued by the gallery is included. Lee Herring was born in Sunderland, in north-east England. After excelling in art throughout his early education, he went on to study Fine Art at the University of Chester where he developed his painting style. Herring graduated with 1st class honors and was awarded the University Prize for his work. Years of dedication to his creative practice have cultivated Herring’s current multimedia style. Each of Herring’s paintings evolves through a spontaneous process. The conventional paintbrush is abandoned as Herring employs layers of impasto pastel hues in acrylic, markers, neon spray paint, and a glaze of varnish with pallet knives, trowels, and scrapers. The physicality of his work is evident in the visceral nature of his paintings. Sell-out shows and professional collaborations characterize Herring's international presence as his style constantly develops. His artworks are displayed and represented internationally with a strong following of investors, collectors, and reputable galleries.
