Jean-Pierre Cassigneul
In the Garden, Color Lithograph, XV/LXXV, Figure, Flowers, France

About the Item

Jean-Pierre Cassigneul was born in 1935 and first exhibited his work at age 17. He went on to participate in various group exhibitions, including the Salon d’Automne in Paris, the Salon de la Jeune Peinture and Meubles Tableaux, an exhibition held in 1977 at the Centre Beaubourg. Cassigneul's work is reminiscent of Les Nabis, the early 20th century French Post-Impressionist avant-garde painters who were in turn inspired by Japanese colored woodblock prints and decorative arts. At a private exhibition at the Galerie Tivey-Faucon in Paris, he met another art dealer, Kioyoshi Tamenaga, who publicized his work in Japan. A retrospective of his work travelled through seven major cities in Japan. He has also exhibited extensively throughout Europe and the United States. Cassigneul has painted commissions for theatres and hotels and has illustrated several books, including Le Tour de Malheur by Joseph Kessel.
