Betty Woodman
Greek Pots Visit Edo

2002

About the Item

Color woodcut/lithograph with chine collé, Edition 30. Betty Woodman’s lithograph/woodcut/chine collé, “Greek Pots Visit Edo”, places images of her pots in a Japanese Edo period inspired interior. Woodman blends colors, patterns and forms to create a rich composition that relates to the inventiveness of her three-dimensional ceramic work. Here she plays with the anthropomorphic nature of her vessels as they climb the stairs and pause in the fanciful interior. Woodman effectively juxtaposes the delicacies of lithographic washes with the boldness of the woodblocks.

Engelland, 06 This "Little Owl" print was produced as a "thank you" for those who attended or purchased paintings at a show in New York. The key block originally appeared as an illustration for The O-O's Party by Paul Muldoon - published by The Gallery Press, Ireland. Redesigned to accommodate a tonal block, it is limited to an edition of fifty signed copies, printed by the artist on a 19th century proof press with archival inks and papers.
