About the Item

CB Hoyo’s irreverent multidisciplinary practice—which spans painting, sculpture, and installation—approaches art-world fraud, forgery, and hype with a sense of humor. The self-taught artist, who was born in Havana and now works in Europe, layers pointed, hand-lettered provocations directly over otherwise blank canvases and recreations of famous art historical masterpieces: Hoyo’s satire often derives from his bold juxtapositions of well-known iconography with challenging, cheeky, and self-deprecating statements. The artist has exhibited in New York, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, London, and Milan, among many other cities. Hoyo also runs a thriving merchandise market through his website.
