Peter Blake
American Trilogy

2012

About the Item

Limited edition of 150. Three American icons: the stars and stripes, Elvis Presley and Coca Cola are combined to create American Trilogy, a classic pop art image by Sir Peter Blake.American Trilogy celebrates the roots of Pop Art; featuring imagery that represents the power of mass consumer products and popular culture, and reflecting the fact the America lead mass culture revolution in the 1950s. There are three versions of this silkscreen print; all feature embossing and hand-applied gold or silver leaf, and two are finished with diamond dust. This repetition of imagery with a slight variation on colour or surface texture is reminiscent of the work of Andy Warhol, and serves the double purpose of reflecting the endless ‘sameness’ of mass production and rooting American Trilogy deep in the Pop Art tradition. This is black and silver, diamond dust, published in London by CCA Galleries. 81cm x 107cm

  • KACHINA DOLLS FS II.381
    By Andy Warhol
    Located in Aventura, FL
Screen print on Lenox museum board. From the Cowboys And Indians Portfolio. Hand signed and numbered lower front by Andy Warhol. Numbered 138/250 (there were also 50 AP's, 15 PP's, 15 HC's and 10 numbered in Roman numerals). Published by Gaultney, Klineman Art, Inc., New York. Printed by Rupert Jasen Smith, New York. The artwork is in excellent condition. Certificate of authenticity issued by Gallery Art included. All reasonable offers will be considered. In Cowboys and Indians, Warhol interspersed recognizable portraits of well-known American heroes with less familiar Native American images and motifs. It demonstrates his ironic commentary on America’s collective mythologizing of the historic West. Rather than portraying Native Americans within their historical landscape, Warhol chose to portray a romanticized version of the American West. The West that he chose to represent is familiar to everyone and can be seen in novels, films, and television series. Warhol’s Cowboys and Indians suite...
