70s Original cuban poster for the day of solidarity with Puerto Rico - OSPAAAL

Circa 1970

About the Item

Despite its geographic isolation, the island of Cuba has produced more graphic material in support of oppressed peoples around the world than any other nation. This poster supports Puerto Rico in its war against U.S. imperialism and specifically the day of solidarity with Puerto Rico. The posters published by the Organization of Solidarity with the Peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America (OSPAAAL) were a new expression of revolutionary art. They were created after an agreement at the first tricontinental conference held in Havana in 1966, itself a response to the U.S. invasion of the Dominican Republic a year earlier. It was an international project from the start, as representatives from 82 countries attended that first conference under the rallying cry: "This great humanity has had enough and has begun to move".
