YOSHIYUKI MIURA
Red Ellipsoid

About the Item

Yoshiyuki Miura was born in Fukuoka, Japan, in 1958. In 1985, he graduated in sculpture art from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts, he then moved to Munich, Germany, to study at the Academy of Fine Arts under Leo Kornbrust. With his sculptures and installations, the Japanese artist reflects the relation of space and time; he leads force and counterforce in order to bring them into a balanced state of tension and release.  Poet and philosopher, he devotes himself to the realization of monumental kinetic sculptures, in fact, he creates objects which play with our perception of three-dimensionality and that intrigue us with their extraordinary simplicity and beauty. His work combines Japanese minimalism with the tradition of optical kinetics in an outstanding way, and it can be seen as a systematic structuring of space. Discreet and economical, the Artist deliberately restricts his work to series of five pieces; with great sensitivity and outstanding technical precision, he creates order in the omnipresent chaos of everyday life. Following the legacy of Jesús Rafael Soto and Walter de Maria, he creates expansive installations and kinetic illusory bodies that only our individual perception can assemble into three-dimensional structures. Entirely made by hand, his steel pins, punctuated by colour, reveal the invisible; ephemeral spheres and other phantom forms. Yoshiyuki challenges the public in their certainty, with a precise and minimal trompe-l’oeil, as well as alluding to a perceived fourth dimension.

  • Tartuffe
Located in Pampilhosa da Serra, PT
Lisbon-based, Miguel Rodrigues is renowed by having developed a highly innovative and personal artistic style: the hyperbaroque. His hyperbaroque sculptures summon the baroque’s conjunction of the transcendental and the ephemeral; playing elegantly with shapes that veer towards abstraction, and that combine organic cuverneality with the fortrights arrangements of modern formalism. The aim is for these works to open up spaces of potentiality and transformation; To use extroversion and introversion to resonate with the possibility of constructing a future reality according to our shared dreams and desires; To ensue that these constructions and convictions are as real and magnificent as anything. Tartuffe was created in partnership with Mariana Custodio...
