Jeff Koons
Ballon Dog Orange

2015

About the Item

These playful sculptures are now among the most iconic works of contemporary art. Koons has also created smaller, collectible versions of this sculpture, as well as balloon swans, rabbits, monkeys, and even Venuses. “I’ve always enjoyed balloon animals because they’re like us,” Koons has said about the series, “We’re balloons. You take a breath and you inhale, it’s an optimism. You exhale, and it’s kind of a symbol of death.”

“My work reflects on experiences of transformation, alchemy and the sublime, manifesting in sculptures that undulate between soft and hard, alive and static, real and imagined. This dislocation reflects on mortality and ephemerality, exploring the space in between stages in our lives as well as embracing fantasies of alternative dimensions as a means of escapism.” - Artist Statement Sasha Koozel Reibstein...
